About Nico
The interplay of light and chemicals used in the cyanotype process creates captivating and evocative works of art. The distinct cyan-blue tones perfectly complement my coastal surroundings, merging with the rugged landscapes and nautical elements. These prints serve as a visual language, speaking to the deep connection I feel with Cape Cod and expressing the emotions and stories that unfold within it.
The cyanotype printing process was invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel. When a solution containing a mixture of iron compounds is exposed to UV light, a chemical reaction occurs, resulting in the formation of insoluble compounds known as Prussian blue.
